Chalet Manager - My Day
Chalet St Nicholas, Courchevel 1850

The alarm clock wakes you from a sleep that never seems long enough and you crawl out of bed to start the day.

Breakfast is informal but flexibility is always required. The late riser, the hungover party animal and the first-lifter can usually be found in every party. Have lots of tea and coffee ready and ensure that no-one forgets the essentials: lift pass, suncream, hat, gloves...

The chalet is now yours. That night's dessert can be made. The cake is in the oven for afternoon tea, time to clean. There will be days when it takes no time at all, there will also be days when it takes forever. Take the rough with the smooth and do what you can.

After laying out afternoon tea you can, with satisfaction, shut the door on a clean, organised and tidy chalet.

Go ski-ing!! This is the moment in the day when you can sit on a lift, in the blazing sun with a brilliant blue sky and a back drop of snowy mountains, and say to yourself - "I live here!" However tired you feel you cannot fail to find the energy to return to your chalet and cook yet another sumptuous meal with such inspirational scenery.

Shower, change and back to work. Canapés are to be ready for 19.30 with dinner at 20.00. The kitchen has an air of calmness - a chalet host in control?! The fire and candles are lit, the canapés are out, time to catch up with your guests and their ski-ing exploits.

Dinner is served. Make it sociable, don't hide behind your pots and pans, and never rush a meal. Offer coffee by the fire side and set the dishwasher going. Check your guests have enough wine open if they're planning to stay in. Set the table for breakfast and then say goodnight. A cheeky beer or 2 awaits!
